Action and Remains

art; brown; poster;
Exhibition design for 'Action and Remains', the third exhibition at the newly renovated Kunsthal Charlottenborg.

Action and Remains was double exhibition of the works of fluxus artists Al Hansen and Arthur Køpcke. The exhibition featured the two bodies of work in separate sections of the gallery. As practicing artists in Denmark their paths crossed on several levels. Their art is based on an abandonment of bourgeois art and its institutions and an abandonment of the perception of art as being compartmentalised. In their efforts they shared a use of ordinary kitchen utensils and rubbish elements as material for collages and assemblages.

For the exhibition a comprehensive catalogue was produced. The catalogue contains the exhibited works and texts that offer a comprehensive view of the period and the two artists. The studio also designed posters, a banner, invitations, signage and advertising.

Kunsthal Charlottenborg

Copenhagen's largest exhibition venue (1,400 m2 of exhibition space) and meeting-place for contemporary art. The exhibitions are internationally oriented, and are promoted widely among art enthusiasts of all ages.

The historic building, built in 1883, which is shared with Danmarks Kunstbibliotek (the Danish National Art Library) was originally called the Exhibition Building at Charlottenborg, to emphasise its affiliation with Charlottenborg itself, the baroque palace on Kongens Nytorv which now houses the pictorial art schools of the Royal Danish Academy of Art.

Kunsthal Charlottenborg is a state institution, and is part of the Ministry of Culture.
